‘I have a lot of respect for Nacho, he’s a great footballer and a great person. But you have to make decisions based on the present and the future. Now we expect another player to come in as a normal replacement.’ Spain coach explained.

De la Fuente led Spain to the European title at under-19 and under-21 level. As well as an Olympic silver medal. Like Gareth Southgate and Lionel Scaloni, De la Fuente was promoted from within.
